Ashley Huff
Multidisciplinary artist specializing in aerial dance performance.
Biography
Ashley Huff is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in aerial dance performance. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Art from Alberta College of Art and Design, an influence that continues to shape her approach to movement, theatrical imagery and performance creation. Although she works across multiple fine art mediums, her primary focus is oil painting. Through visceral figurative imagery and a rich color palette, her paintings explore themes of self harm, self destruction and disillusionment. Her aerial work emerges from these ideas.
Ashley discovered aerial dance in 2019 and quickly became dedicated to the discipline. She continues to develop her practice through consistent training at her local studio, international retreats, workshops and training-focused festivals. In her aerial practice, she uses movement, emotional expression and the relationship between the body and apparatus to give physical form to emotional and psychological experiences. She is drawn to honest, raw and expressive art that often centres on vulnerability, emotional conflict and identity. She is currently creating work that explores cycles of stagnation and repetition, examining fear and the erosion of identity.
Ashley is currently based in Nelson BC Canada. She enjoys traveling, spending time in nature and exploring new places and cultures.
